Premiere: Tanimura Midnight’s Cool, Calm ‘Wrong Number’

Tanimura Midnight is the electronic, synth-wave project of Romanian musician Shelby Cinca. And it’s a super exciting time to be him right now, as his new five-track EP Ruby Dare is releasing on October 20 via Swedish Columbia records. We’re pumped to be able to give you a taste of it today, by premiering the track, “Wrong Number”.

This song is hypnotic, but relaxing and varied at the same time. It’s perfect music to have on in the house while you’re doing… just about anything. The second time I listened to it, I came to the conclusion that this is the soundtrack for a road trip I have yet to take, but would like to. There’s something special in the notion that the track is layered and warrants multiple visits while in transit.

According to Cinca, the new EP differs from the older Tanimura Midnight sound due to the introduction of the guitar, “accentuating the drama in a way that we [with sound engineer Nick Anderson] only hinted at previously.”

Cinca is a veteran in the industry, having been one of the founding members of ’90’s post-hardcore band Frodus and steampunk band, The Cassettes. He’s also contributed to the success of many other bands and projects, such as Frantic Mantis and Decahedron. Recently he’s been juggling his duties in the electronic scene with Triobelisk.
