Oh, I’m sorry, were you trying to have some peace and quiet? Some much needed calm before your day gets hectic? Too bad. Here are 1000 volts straight to your face courtesy of New Jersey garage punk outfit, Night Birds.

According to frontman Brian Gorsegner, Night Birds is primarily a creative escape from the mundane grind of working a shitty job in the service industry. He essentially balls up all his frustrations about “assholery” and mindlessness into compact minute-long instrumental combustions.

However, for “Blank Eyes”, Gorsegner specifically wrote about a topic much closer to home, taking out his anxieties and fears in a familiar way. last year, his wife suffered a very serious bout of postpartum depression after delivering their first child. What should have been a joyous few months quickly careened into a downward spiral and turned into an uncertain, dark period. That is what gives this brief song its fire.

Gorsegner explains, “I’ve always considered punk rock a bit therapeutic, but it took on a new meaning for me during this time. I found comfort in playing guitar and channeling gross, shitty feelings through writing songs more than I ever have. This is one of those songs.”
