Premiere: Motion City Soundtrack Turn into Video Game Avatars in ‘It’s A Pleasure To Meet You’

It has been a little while since we’ve heard from beloved Minneapolis pop rock outfit, Motion City Soundtrack, but—just like catching up with an old friend—things have picked up right where we left them. Ahead of their new record, Panic Stations (September 18), MCS have released a ridiculous, awesome video game theme music video for their latest single, “It’s A Pleasure To Meet You”.

Even though the track sounds like a first-time introduction, we are more than familiar with MCS’s brand of “look on the bright side!” version of potentially sad rock music. “We’ve all had our problems with darkness and shadows,” Justin Pierre sings as upbeat, optimistic guitar riffs surround the band like a warm supportive hug.

The above music video perfectly encapsulates this spectrum of emotions as well. We see the band enter a Gauntlet style video game in which they must save a cute lil imprisoned creature with a perpetually whirring propellor hat. What could be a sad tale is made lighthearted by the sheer insanity of the video game world: when the band encounters the main boss (some approximation of Bowser), they each unleash their ludicrous signature moves on him. This ranges from launching penguins from a bow, hurling over nice compliments, and shooting a weird unicorn tractor beam (the final blow) at the boss until he is vanquished. What may have been a tragedy quickly turns to triumph as MCS save their little buddy. Huzzah!

If you are into “It’s A Pleasure To Meet You”, be sure to check out Motion City Soundtrack’s forthcoming record, Panic Stations, which drops on September 18 via Epitaph.
