PREDATOR Reboot Has a Teaser Image You’ll Never See Coming

1987’s Predator, directed by John McTiernan, is easily one of the best sci-fi action movies of the past 30 years, and one of the most quotable, violent, and alien-ful movies ever made. In the years since, there’s been a dark sequel in 1990, a couple of tangents in the Alien vs Predator franchise, and a Robert-Rodriguez-produced pluralization. But it’s that first movie that continues to impress and delight. The long bandied reboot still doesn’t have a cast or a release date, but what it does not have is a badass teaser poster.

Looks like this movie, which may or may not be called The Predator, will get back to the roots of the alien species, making it a single alien fighter who uses cloaking and stealth to attack its prey. As great as the creature effects were in the first movie, we didn’t actually get to see much of him, which made it even cooler.

Writing for the new film is split between Fred Dekker (whose previous credits include cult classics Night of the Creeps and The Monster Squad as well as several episodes of Tales from the Crypt) and Shane Black, the writer-director of such hits as Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Iron Man 3 and the forthcoming The Nice Guys. Black attached to direct the Predator movie, which he calls “an inventive sequel” instead of a straight-up remake. Black also, if you recall, appeared in the first movie as the character Hawkins, the first victim of the alien hunter.

No idea about when this movie might come out or who might be in it, but if Black’s assertion that he’s more interested in “expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button” is accurate, I think we’ll be in for a pretty awesome flick.
