Postmodern Jukebox Gives the FAMILY GUY Theme a Tap Dancing Cover

We have come to expect just about anything from Postmodern Jukebox. Our favorite old-timey loving musicians’ ability to seamlessly turn the unlikeliest of modern day songs into vintage sounding numbers, no matter the style or genre, is what makes them so unique, and why we keep coming back for more. From Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark,” to CeeLo Green’s “Forget You,” to Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun,” their ability to transform any type of song into something that feels right out of our grandparents’ box of old LPs has us thinking they can do it with any track, no matter how unlikely.

Yet somehow their latest caught us off guard, because the last thing we’d ever imagine becoming a smooth-sounding, tap-dancing tune is the theme song from Family Guy.

To help kick off their new North American tour, which began in Providence this week, the band released this version of the animated Fox show’s opening credit song, featuring Casey Abrams on lead vocals and the upright bass, accompanied by Sarah Reich with some world-class tap dancing, along with a violin and piano to round out the arrangement.

With his love for old Sinatra-era showmanship, we wouldn’t be surprised to hear Seth MacFarlane do his own cover of this cover. They are on tour through the end of November, with plenty of tour dates out in California, so maybe he will join them.

If you want to see if they are heading near you on this go-round, you can check out the full list of tour dates at their site.
