POKÉMON GO is Rolling Out Second-Generation Creatures With Pichu and Togepi

As was suggested around this time last month by Pokémon Go data miners, we’re close to getting creatures from Pokémon Silver and Gold in the game, and now it looks like it’s finally happening — Niantic has announced that at least a couple new Pokémon can now be had by the masses.

In a new blog post, Niantic writes:

“Professor Willow has discovered Togepi and Pichu hatching from Eggs! Starting later today, Trainers will have the opportunity to hatch these and several other Pokémon that were originally discovered in the Johto Region in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver video games. These are the first of more Pokémon coming to Pokémon GO over the next few months.”

This seems to mean that at the moment, these Pokémon can’t yet be found out in the wild, so you’ll have to spin the spin-y thing at Pokéstops and hope you get one of the fateful eggs. There’s no word yet on what the “several other Pokémon” will be either, but we know that they’ll also be from the second generation of Game Boy games, so get out there are let us know what you end up hatching.

With the holiday season in full swing, Niantic has introduced another surprise: In a move that mirrors the new headwear-bearing variations of Pikachu in Pokémon Sun and Moon, a Santa-hatted Pikachu can be found in all regions.

It really looks like Niantic is readying to add the entire second generation of Pokémon to the game, since they’re all already referenced in the game’s code. Perhaps that’ll be a fun reveal to kick off 2017?
