PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE May Be Getting a Modern Remake

The original Plan 9 From Outer Space was simultaneously director Ed Wood‘s most famous film and one of the worst movies ever made. However, Plan 9‘s lack of quality and unintentionally hilarious acting and staging have led it to become a true cult classic among film fans. Now a remake of Plan 9 may once again appear on the big screen.

Giant Flick Films has announced plans to remake Plan 9 From Outer Space with director Shahin Sean Solimon, previously best-known (if at all) for a low-budget Sinbad movie narrated by Patrick Stewart. On the film’s Facebook page, the new Plan 9‘s description sounds very different from the story of the original movie: “In the not so distant future, a previously uncharted, yet massive Asteroid slams into earth. The worldwide toxic fallout has caused a post-apocalyptic world, millions die, and this is only the beginning.”

The original film had a very loose plot about aliens resurrecting the dead to prevent humanity from eventually destroying the universe. This new film doesn’t appear to carry over many aspects of that story. On his website, Solimon said “I wrote this picture as an original script and story. I think Ed Wood would have wanted to see it this way. It will be a fun ride for you guys as well. Since we will be opening this up to the fans. Stay tuned on this one! Lots of info coming.”

It should be noted that Solimon has limited credits as an actor and a director listed on his IMDB page, and it’s not clear if the new Plan 9 has the financial backing to be made. We’re admittedly very curious to see if this project comes together and whether Solimon can deliver a movie that lives up to the legend of Wood’s original film.
