PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES Trailer is Filled with Ghost Sharks

The last we heard of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales was its Super Bowl commercial a month back. Now, as we inch closer to the movie’s May 26 release date, the first full-length trailer for Captain Jack Sparrow’s latest seafaring adventure is here.

…and this time around, there are ghost sharks. Probably the only way to make sharks more terrifying, aside from giving them frickin’ Austin Powers-style laser beams attached to their heads, is to make it so your physical form can’t fend them off. Ghosts are a theme in the upcoming fifth installment of the series. Captain Jack is pursued by undead pirate hunter and old rival Armando Salazar (portrayed by Javier Bardem), whose sole purpose in (after)life is to wipe out every last pirate on water. This is a fate Jack would rather avoid, so he seeks out the Trident of Poseidon, which grants its holder total power over the sea, and therefore over Salazar.

The trailer also gives us a glimpse of a younger Jack, and while anti-aging CGI hasn’t always worked out so well in the past, from the quick look we get at it in the trailer, young Johnny Depp looks pretty convincing here. Beyond that, the trailer promises action-packed adventure balanced by the wry humor fans have come to expect from Pirates, so the final (maybe?) film in the series ought to be an appropriate conclusion.

Check out the trailer above, and the film’s new poster below. What do you think about Salazar? Does he seem like Jack’s most imposing foe yet? Share your thoughts!
