Pickstarter: Our Favorite Crowdfunded Projects 10/14

Welcome to Pickstarter, our weekly look at the content rich world of projects on Kickstarter and other crowdfunding sites. This week we’ve got a long gestating Goon movie from David Fincher, a radio variety hour that wants to spread its wings, and a time machine that may not be worth the investment, but definitely worth a read.

Pick #1 – The Goon Movie

An animated movie of Eric Powell’s The Goon by David Fincher and starring Clancy Brown and Paul Giamatti? Sounds awesome, right? Apparently not so much in Hollywood, where it has yet to be greenlit – so the filmmakers are taking their appeal directly to the fans. We spoke to Eric Powell about his creation a few months ago, and at the time he said they were still looking for funding, but it looks like Kickstarter is the filmmakers’ best option. If you were thinking the film was already underway based on the trailer and clips that have popped up online, you’d be wrong; those were just proof of concept works that the creative team paid for out of pocket.

Pick #2 – Thrilling Adventure Hour: The Graphic Novel and Beyond!

From “Sparks Nevada, Marshal on Mars” to “Jefferson Reid: Ace American,” the Thrilling Adventure Hour has been entertaining fans for seven years through its live shows and via the podcast on The Nerdist Network. Now the Workjuice Players are taking their act to other media and kickstarting a graphic novel. Partnering with Archaia for the publishing, the Thrilling Adventure Hour Graphic Novel will be an anthology of the programs the crew performs. If creators Ben Acker and Ben Blacker meet their stretch goals, we may even see a web series and a concert film.

Pick #3 – A Time Machine

This may or may not be a time machine. It could also be a printing press. We’re not sure, but we can’t help but be impressed by the planning and thought that has gone into this project. The creator of the project assures us that, “I am neither a scientist nor a technician nor a high school graduate. Numbers BAFFLE me.” So we have that solid foundation to build from. Maybe we shouldn’t fund this one, but it’s nice to dream. His incentives for investing are quite a draw.

and upvote that shit. It has topped out at a measly 500-something upvotes and that’s some weak ass shit
