Pickstarter: Learn How to Play Tabletop RPGs with SAVING THROW

Stepping into the world of tabletop role-playing games (RPGs) isn’t the easiest thing. If you don’t have a group of friends who are knowledgeable on the subject and willing to teach you the ways of rolling dice and earning experience points, you have to find your own path. Sure, there are guides on the internet and you can get help from your local gaming store, but what about learning from a web series? Saving Throw is here to help you navigate the tabletop RPG mines.

Saving Throw, featuring hosts Ivan Van Norman, Amy Vorpahl, and Ben Dunn (who you may know from NerdTerns), just launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the first series of their web show. Their series will take viewers through the how-tos of RPGs and explain why gaming is a worthwhile activity. Anyone tuning in will learn how to go from creating a character to rolling dice and playing a game. They’re planning to cover the Pathfinder RPG system first, which longtime D&D players will recognize as the spiritual successor to 3.5. Let them tell you more about their plans:

As a person who has been in the “I want to game and don’t know where to start” shoes, I think this series is a fantastic idea. Reading about the mechanics of tabletop RPGs is one thing, and watching other people play and explain what they’re doing is another. You can choose from several reward levels that include t-shirts, adventures, gaming sessions, and more. All funds raised go towards production costs. Head over to their Kickstarter page for more details.

Great idea! Much like Wil Wheaton’s Tabletop helps bring people to tabletop gaming, this can do for RPGs.

I’m so glad Nerdist is highlighting this Kickstarter. I run the weekly D&D games at Meltdown Comics every Sunday, and I’ve gotten to know Ivan and Ben over the last couple years. They’re great guys and I’m really hoping their project makes their goal.
