It may be the case that I don’t have to say anything more than a single phrase to send you to support this Kickstarter. This:
But I can’t help myself. You know how the Good Doctor was a major influence on Chris Hardwick/Hard ‘n Phirm, and launched Weird Al Yankovic and so many others. For me, it was riding in the back seat of the family Buick listening to the syndicated Dr. Demento Show on WNBC from New York, absorbing the warped humor that in turn warped my own sensibilities for life, and I was disappointed years later when our paths didn’t quite cross — he left KLSX Los Angeles before I got there, much to my chagrin. Generations of kids and adults alike “staaaaaay demented” to this day, and it will be very, very cool to see a documentary made about the man and his (very twisted) music.
And that’s what Under the Smogberry Trees is all about. There’s more about the project at this website, but click here to back the project through Kickstarter, where there are a lot of pretty great premiums for pledging, from a kazoo to dinner with the Doc. Thirty bucks gets you the DVD when it’s done, forty bucks gets a digital copy on a top hat-shaped flash drive. And fifty bucks gets you a membership in the Doctor Demento Fan Club circa 1975, with a recreation of everything you’d have gotten if you’d joined back then, including the t-shirt, an 8×10, and an autographed certificate.
Again, do it. But you probably went ahead and pledged back at “Dr. Demento documentary.”
I can’t wait to see this Kickstarter successful so i can see this movie! I’ve been waiting more than 30 years for a movie about Dr. Demento
Hi, I’m 1/2 of the #1 artist on the Dr Demento Show for 2008. So I am the #1/2 artist on the……..OK. As a 30+ year fan of the good Doctor, thank you so very much for helping publicize this in such an enthusiastic way. I’d do it too, but like, I don’t have a cool blog that zillions of people read. Here’s to the success of the campaign and a Deeeeemented time for us all! Thanks again.
