Peyton Reed To Direct Marvel’s Ant-Man

It’s been a long two weeks for the folks at Marvel since news came down that long-attached director, Edgar Wright had stepped down from the upcoming adaptation of Ant-Man, a film that was supposed to serve as the kick-off of Marvel’s Phase Three following Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015. Since then, rumors have swirled as to who would replace the Shaun of the Dead director, with things coming real close to done last week when Anchorman’s Adam McKay was reported to be in “serious talks” to take on the job. Those rumors would later be dismissed with McKay stating he had turned down the offer. Now, with another week gone by, the impossible has happened. A director has been named… officially.

Straight from Marvel itself, Bring It On and Yes Man director Peyton Reed has been hired to replace Edgar Wright in the director’s chair of the upcoming film. In addition, the studio has also stated McKay will be contributing to the script. A new synopsis was also released with the announcement: Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

So there you have it, Ant-Man has a director once again and is expected to start production any day now in order to make its July 2015 release date.

Do you like the new director choice? Would he have been your fourth choice? Let us know in the comments below.

  1. The 2.5th Doctor says:

Well… We got 13 months to see if this is a good choice.

  2. Maurece says:

Sincerely, I hope he make a great job. We all have been waiting for this flick for a long time.  However; I don’t know if hes is the right person to do this. Reed has a lot of experience, but I think this film is too much to handle.(big budget/big studio/release date) You guys remember The Green Hornet? Even with the amazing Michel Gondry as a director and incredible comedian Seth Rogen ,who also co-wrote the script with his writing partner Evan Goldberg,(Superbad, Pineapple Express, This is the End), they can’t pull it off because of the lack of experience making a action – comedy- detective movie. Ant – Man IS aaction – comedy- detective movie! I really hope Disney/Marvel knows what they’re doing because this could be a big disappointing disaster.

  3. Chimpinalls says:

McKay is reportedly rewriting the script too. Nothing against these guys but I’m unconvinced that any change from Wright and Cornish’s vision is a good thing.

    • Jacka says:

It could be for the best – Having someone other than Edgar Wright directing a script that Wright wrote with his own unique style in mind probably wouldn’t end particularly well.

  4. Jamie says:

I’ve not heard of him,but good luck! It seems like he’s on a hiding to nothing .Even his previous films seem to be headline writers dreams
