Peter Dinklage and Nolan North Go Toe to Toe as DESTINY’s Ghost

It was just last month when Bungie revealed that the role of Destiny’s Ghost was to be recast for the game’s big fall expansion, The Taken King. The announcement drew mixed reactions from fans who, on one hand, were tired of hearing Peter Dinklage’s monotone voice, while on the other, actually found his portrayal of Ghost endearing and something to miss. It was the fact that Nolan North—the voice of Uncharted’s Nathan Drake and countless others—was going to be the one lending his vocals to the game that gave fans hope for a more charismatic companion.

Now that Update 2.0 is live, and the switch between Dinklage and North has officially been made, players are making mental notes of how the actors compare. The above video, for example, gives a back-to-back comparison of the actors performing the same exact lines. Although I was looking forward to the change initially, I have to say that after watching the video, I’m going to miss Dinklebot.

The most notable difference between the two is the attitude and overall vibe that they bring to the character. Dinklage has a tendency to come off more serious and a bit sarcastic, whereas North is happy about literally everything whether it is initiating a failsafe, or waking up a hive. Players are already dubbing North’s new Ghost “Disneybot”, which I think is fitting given his tone. That isn’t to say that the new version is bad, it’s just entirely different from the original. It will definitely take some getting used to for those who’ve been playing Destiny since launch.

What do you think of the change? Are you excited for Nolan North’s voice? Or, are you going to miss Peter Dinklage? Let us know in the comments below.
