Paul Rudd and Jimmy Fallon Recreate a Styx Video

Could anyone have guessed that when Paul Rudd stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote the highly anticipated Captain America: Civil War he would end up revitalizing the sales (probably) of the 1981 Styx album Paradise Theatre?

Donning wigs and some of the best early ’80s garb imaginable, Fallon and Rudd recreated the video for the Styx single “Too Much Time on My Hands” with a scary level of accuracy. The pair reminisced about the time they were “in Styx together” and gave us all the treat of one of their videos. Fallon played the part of Dennis DeYoung while Rudd–blue blouse and all–stepped into the role of Tommy Shaw in this shot-for-shot remake of the delightfully weird and terribly decade-specific music video. Here’s the original video for comparison:

While no one saw this piece of awesomeness coming, the song had surfaced a few times on the show this week, as it was occasionally played by The Roots and even featured in a bit of a dance party with Adam Levine. Perhaps this is just Jimmy Fallon’s way of processing such a catchy tune and exorcising it out of his system, since he mentioned earlier in the week that “It’s stuck in my head. I can’t get it out of my head,” and added “Right now it’s the best song I’ve ever heard in my entire life.”

If I had my way, there’d be an entire series based on recreating old music videos with celebrities. In fact, I nominate KC & The Sunshine Band’s “Give It Up” for the first episode.

Do you think Fallon and Rudd captured the essence of Styx in their video? What videos would you love to see re-made? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
