Patty Jenkins Will Direct WONDER WOMAN 2

Praise Hera! After months of waiting and wondering, Warner Bros. has done the right thing and closed a deal for Patty Jenkins to return to the DCEU and direct the sequel to her crazy-successful Wonder Woman film. If you were looking for a reason to celebrate this Monday, now’s the time and here’s the reason!

The news comes to us all via Variety (Nerdist has reached out to Warner Bros. for further comment and confirmation) and isn’t a total surprise—they would have made a huge mistake not hiring the woman who brought them their biggest, most well-reviewed film of the summer. This is a welcome positive indicator for Diana of Themyscira’s continued excellence within the DCEU. Jenkins was already working with DC head honcho Geoff Johns on the script, so her return to the franchise has been speculated for some time.

And it is no doubt a welcome return for many reasons: namely, the success Wonder Woman brought the company under the tutelage of Jenkins’ nuanced and capable eye. Unlike most other DCEU films, Wonder Woman found near-universal acclaim upon its release, grossing $409 million at the domestic box office and $813 million worldwide from its $150 million budget. To say nothing about the cultural impact it had on many women — ourselves included.

Details about the plot/story for the second installment of Diana’s story are being held very close to the vest, but Jenkins has stated that it will take place during the Cold War.

Are you looking forward to Jenkins’ return to the fold? Let us know in the comments below.
