Patti LuPone is Returning to PENNY DREADFUL in a Brand New Role

Rejoice, Penny Dreadful fans! After a shining guest starring role in the sophomore season of the Showtime favorite, Broadway icon Patty LuPone will return for season three but in a completely different role. Plot twist!

Variety is reporting that instead of reprising her season two character of the Cut-Wife, a witchy mentor to Eva Green’s Vanessa Ives, LuPone will portray “Dr. Seward, an American therapist who treats Eva Green’s bewitching Vanessa Ives with an unconventional new approach.” Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic character Dr. Henry Jekyll will also make an appearance in the form of young British actor Shazad Latif.

Finally, veteran actor Wes Studi will join Penny as a series regular; Variety explains his character named Kaetenay as “an intense, enigmatic Native American with a deep connection to Ethan (Josh Hartnett). He also becomes an ally to Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton).” If I had to guess, Studi’s character might support fan theories that Hartnett’s “transformative” abilities are more in line with the myth of the wendigo than a traditional werewolf. With Ethan Chandler allegedly on a boat headed back to America, perhaps we’ll delve a little deeper into the Native American lore surrounding the half-man, half-beast creature.

With the addition of Dr. Henry Jekyll, plus Lily Frankenstein and Dorian Gray teaming up to take on London, and Victor crumbling, season three promises to be an exciting and unpredictable thrill ride for all of our favorite monsters.

Penny Dreadful returns in 2016 with nine all-new episodes.
