Paramount Wants Christopher McQuarrie Back for MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6

Through the first five Mission: Impossible movies, each film had been helmed by a different director. But that may soon change if Paramount Pictures and Skydance get their way.

Paramount is reportedly pursuing Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation director Christopher McQuarrie to write and direct Mission: Impossible 6. This isn’t entirely unexpected, given the box office success of Rogue Nation. McQuarrie’s deal with Paramount hasn’t been finalized yet, but the studio is said to be planning a fast turnaround on the project with an eye towards filming in August 2016.

Of course, Tom Cruise is going to be back as Ethan Hunt. It was Cruise who revealed that Mission: Impossible 6 was in the works during a guest appearance on The Daily Show last summer. Cruise made his first Mission: Impossible movie in 1996 with director Brian DePalma. In the sequels, Cruise was joined by directors, John Woo, J.J. Abrams, and Brad Bird before re-teaming with McQuarrie for Rogue Nation. McQuarrie and Cruise have previously collaborated on Valkyrie, Jack Reacher, and Edge of Tomorrow.

Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, and Ving Rhames are very likely to return for the next Mission: Impossible sequel, but there is no official word on their involvement yet. The latest report does indicate that Rebecca Ferguson may reprise her role as Ilsa Faust from Rogue Nation. The studio has the option to bring Ferguson back, however, it’s unclear if that contract clause will be activated.

Are you looking forward to Mission: Impossible 6? And what do you want to see in this sequel? This post will self destruct in five seconds, so use that time to leave a comment below!
