Charlie Day Sings Ridiculous PACIFIC RIM Songs

Pacific Rim Uprising‘s panel at New York Comic Con included an epic trailer, a question and answer session with the cast and the film’s writer and director Steven S. DeKnight, and a performance from star Charlie Day, a.k.a. Dr. Newton Geiszler. He joined the panel via video to share some of his ideas for music for the next film–in other words, he made up some ridiculously wacky and terrific Pacific Rim songs.

Watch and listen closely:

Uprising‘s composer, John Paesano, doesn’t have to worry about his job, but I think Day’s on the right path. His lyrics include some solid points, like the first ditty all about the sword. Pacific Rim kept the chain sword out of sight for so long. Why wouldn’t you use the weapon to slice and dice kaiju right away? So, as Day sang, “Don’t forget about the sword.”

His musings about Herman (played by Burn Gorman) and Newt are pretty astute, too, but I’m a bigger fan of his tune about the kaiju. Crooning “Ocean lizard, go back to the Breach” at the massive monsters would have been a lot less labor intensive than sealing the Breach. Just saying.

What do you think of Day’s vocal stylings? Share your thoughts or your very own Pacific Rim inspired lyrics in the comments.
