OUTLANDER Casts its Brianna at Long Last

Fans of the Outlander books by Diana Gabaldon have been waiting not-so-patiently for the news about who’s playing Brianna. Well, we finally know which redhead will be taking on the role in season 2 of the TV series! On Thursday, Starz announced that newcomer Sophie Skelton will play the role. Now, if you don’t want to know who she is just yet, you’d better stop reading now, because major, major spoilers are about to happen!

Now, if you’re still with us, you know the novels beyond the first feature even more time travel, and that Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) have a daughter named Brianna. But wait, you may be thinking, that lady in the picture is an adult! Yup. Brianna is raised in America after Claire ends up back in her own time, leading the girl to believe she’s the daughter of Claire’s first husband, Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies). Fans of the books have been trying to figure out how they’re going to handle the time difference and the aging of the two main characters since the cable series was first announced. No word on that yet, but here is the official description of the character: “Strong-minded and intelligent beyond her years (traits inherited from both her mother and father), Brianna has a distinctly scholastic mind-set and a healthy dose of Fraser stubbornness.”

Skelton is listed on IMDB as being 5’8″, though the character in the book is taller. (Just wanted to get it out there for you purists.) She’s previously appeared on shows like Ren, Foyle’s War and So Awkward.

Okay, Outlander fans! We want to know what you think of the casting! We also want to know how the heck you think they’re going to handle the time travel here. Tweet me/us at @JennaBusch/@Nerdist with your theories! Outlander will return to Starz in April. So, is it April yet?
