Why Are So Many Big Franchises Skipping This Year’s Hall H at SDCC?

Some major film and TV franchises are skipping this year’s Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con. On today’s Nerdist News Talks Back we discussed what their absence means for the Nerd Super Bowl, along with all of those Star Wars films in development, Jon Bernthal‘s return to The Walking Dead, Wonder Woman’s invisible jet, and the best of this year’s E3.

Joining host Jessica Chobot today were Nerdist editors Amy Ratcliffe and Dan Casey, as well as Nerdist News writer Joey Clift, and they started with the future of the galaxy far, far away, which currently has nine films in development. This sounds like a lot, but we knew about all of them already, so is this number actually small? We also learned Billy Dee Williams will return as Lando for Episode IX, but what will his role be?

Speaking of returns, Jon Bernthal will reportedly return to The Walking Dead as Andrew Lincoln gets ready to depart the show next season. What will Shane’s resurrection look like? Can the writers make sense of this?

When it comes to watching Hall H panels at this year’s SDCC, some big time properties are sitting it out, with the MCU, Game of Thrones, and Westworld all taking a (hall)pass this year. Is this worrying, or it this nothing more than bad-timing for all of them? Will it impact how many people show up? What franchises are we most excited to see there?

Finally, Jessica would never let us get away without talking about this year’s E3, so which news, trailers, and reveals from this year’s big video game expo were our favorites? Who won the weekend? Who was the big loser?

In case you haven’t heard, Nerdist News Talks Back has an all new start time. We’re still live every Monday to Thursday on our YouTube and Alpha channels, but now we’re coming to you at 11 AM PT. Our hour-long Nerdist News What the Friday wrap up of the week is staying put at 1PM PT, exclusively at Alpha. It’s not like we’re abandoning Hall H, it’s the same great talk show, only now you don’t have to wait as long for it.

What did you think of today’s show? Talk back to us about it in the comments below.
