You may be a bit blue that the second season of Orphan Black has reached its conclusion, but that doesn’t mean that we need to stop celebrating one of our favorite shows on TV right now. All this week, we will be bringing you Spotify playlists that best characterize our favorite batch of clones. Today, we present our gritty, brash, take-no-prisoners Sarah Manning playlist.
This one’s for all the tough-as-nails girls. The badasses, the hard-nosed, street-smart occasional-grifters with survival on their mind and the safety of others in their heart. Sarah Manning is one tough cookie and her musical tastes prove as much. An orphaned british grifter raised by her foster mom Mrs. S (alongside her best friend/foster brother Felix), Sarah is the inadvertent leader of the clones and our way into the series. She’s a punk with a reckless streak but a heart made of loyalty-laced gold. She loves her daughter, Kira, her family, and her newfound sestras. But that doesn’t mean she’s always good and not-selfish: not in the least. She’s gotta do what she’s gotta do, and her musical accompaniment asserts just that.
In two seasons Sarah Manning has gone from a petty criminal on the lookout for herself and â sometimes, when convenient â the child she birthed to a renegade activist for her and her clone club posse in the name of body autonomy. She is willing to do whatever it takes to make sure that she and the rest of the sestrahood are safe, healthy, and, most importantly, in control of their own lives. She may not know who to trust but she’s got a solid head on her shoulders and her own way of figuring out what’s right and wrong in their quest for understanding.
