As you’ve probably noticed by now, we here at El Nerdisto love us some Orphan Black. Like, really, really love it. In fact we’re all pretty proud, card-carrying members of the Clone Club. So when we got the chance to talk to the creators of the series, Graeme Manson and John Fawcett at San Diego Comic-Con, we jumped â professionally! â at the chance (OK, after a little bit of fangirling, we admit it). Because when it comes to combining conspiracy thriller drama with evolutionary science, there is heaps and heaps to talk about.
And talk to them we did. About a LOT. I mean this is the sestrahood like no other. In this first video, we chatted up the guys about some of the bigger character surprises of the season (spoilers, sweeties!), like Tony and Jordan’s, Rachel’s future on the series and her now-defunct eye, the differences between Project Castor and Project Leda, and the myriad ways in which the series discusses modern scientific, social, evolutionary, and moral issues with their multitude of clones.
“It’s a complex story to tell,” explained Fawcett. “And we’re always trying to get our science right. It’s an interesting part of the mystery, the ethics and actual science around cloning and what’s going on currently in the world in biomedical research.”
Also complex? Trying to get any information from these two about the future of some of the clones â in particular Tony and Rachel. “You know, that pencil went pretty deep,” teased Fawcett. Ugh! Guess we’ll have to wait a couple months to find out.
