ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK Gets the Disney Treatment in These Illustrations

So with Orange is the New Black season three having finally having been released by Netflix this weekend, chances are that several of you out there are reading this while taking a break from a marathon viewing session catching up with our favorite inmates of Litchfield State Prison. Well here’s a little more Orange is the New Black to keep you entertained in between episodes.

An artist by the name of Yehyon Chung, commissioned by website Refinery29, has created a series of portraits of several of the women from the show mixed with the animated Disney characters she thinks best correspond with their personalities (and they’re not all princess characters or evil villains by the way, which is cool).

According to Chung, “my main goal was to seamlessly combine the two characters while not having one overshadow the other; I tried to maintain the sharp and edgy tone from Orange Is The New Black, while accentuating the Disney characteristics with vibrant colors.”

Most of the character match-ups are pretty accurate; Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) as Alice from Alice in Wonderland is perfect, as is her girlfriend/not girlfriend/girlfriend again Alex Vause (Laura Prepon) as the White Rabbit, who led her down the rabbit hole to Wonderland (although I doubt any of the ladies at Litchtfield would ever think of their current home as “Wonderland”, but I get what the artist is going for). Also spot-on is Natasha Lyonne’s character Nicky as Merida from Brave, a fitting mash-up, and not just because they have the same hair. Also perfect is Laverne Cox’s character of Sophia as Elsa from Frozen, a character a lot of fans have seen as an LGBT allegory from the get-go. A couple of the others seem like a stretch, like “Pennsatucky” as Prince John from Robin Hood, but hey, it’s still a good illustration.

Check out the gallery of all seven illustrations below, and remember that Orange is the New Black season three is now streaming on Netflix.
