With Doctor Strange, fans of the MCU got to see what that world had to offer in the realm of magic. Thanks to Shanks FX, you can learn how to create some of that magic on your own. The above video shows a few different ways to create the fire portals Doctor Strange and his friends (or enemies) use to transport all across the world and beyond. You won’t even need to travel to Nepal to earn your own Sling Ring!
As long as you are taking the proper safety precautions, it seems that making the portals can be done pretty easily using some basic items. Using steel wool and a fan creates enough sparks to simulate a portal. Even a children’s spin toy intertwined with a sparkler works great.
The final result is pretty awesome. Slowing the frame rate of their video down to 2 fps and combining it with a stop-motion Doctor Strange action figure, Shanks FX lets us see that “movie-magic” doesn’t necessarily have to always be done with CGI. Now if only these methods could be used to help navigate the crowds during Black Friday sales.
