Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and Coulson Get LEGO Minifigs

Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and Coulson Get LEGO Minifigs

One of the great things about LEGO owning the license for about a billion pieces of intellectual property (seriously, they’re rivaling Funko at this point for how many different title’s sets they put out) is that they can make sets that don’t correspond to any one movie or TV show. In the case of their Marvel Comics line, it means they can make sets that include characters only seen in the comics. According to a recent report of several January 2017 sets by Brickset (shared via io9), a few fan favorites will be getting minifig representation for the first time: namely Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk.

The current Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan, has been in the comics since 2013 and was Marvel’s first Muslim character to headline a solo title. But it’s not her religion that made her so beloved, it’s the way she handles situations with plucky resolve, despite being a “second string hero” from a “second string city.” Her shape-shifting abilities made her stand out immediately, and those elements are on full display in the LEGO set “Captain America Jet Pursuit.”

Kamala has some super long arms with huge hands in her minifig, which will surely come in handy as she helps Pilot Captain America as he fights Adaptoid, who appears to have Iron Man’s suit, Falcon’s wings, and even Cap’s shield. Bummer!

In addition to the truly unique Ms. Marvel figure, another set offers some never-before-offered characters. The “Hulk vs. Red Hulk” set, which includes Hulk, Red Hulk, She-Hulk, and Red She-Hulk, the latter three completely new to LEGO. She-Hulk has gone through many changes since her debut in 1980 and is currently one of Marvel’s most progressive female characters, a fighter for social justice. And sure, there’s no real reason why this set includes giant battle buggies, but you gotta give the kids something to build, right?

And, to round things off, a set called “Iron Man: Detroit Steel Strikes,” which includes Justin Hammer in a massive robot suit fighting against Invincible Iron Man and — coolest of all — ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s Agent Phil Coulson and his amazing car, Lola. Does Lola have flight-conversion capabilities? You bet your dumb face!

So, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and Agent Coulson are minifigs now…can’t beat that with a stick, can ya? All three of these sets will be available beginning in January 2017.
