Nintendo Gives the SNES Classic a Very Retro TV Ad

The Super Nintendo has withstood the test of time as one of the greatest video game consoles ever released. Next month, Nintendo is revisiting its fan favorite system with the SNES Classic Edition, and it’s already primed to be one of the hottest gaming items since last year’s NES Classic Edition. To celebrate the occasion, Nintendo dropped a decidedly retro advertisement for the new/old system.

Via Gamespot, Nintendo has released a Super Nintendo Classic ad that looks like it could have been produced in the ’90s. It even resurrects two of the company’s former catch phrases: “Play it loud” and “Now you’re playing with power.” The ridiculously low budget look is part of the ad’s charm, but the footage of the iconic games is still enticing.

There is some new footage from StarFox 2 in the ad since this will be the first time that the game has been officially released. It was originally completed and held back from release because Nintendo feared it might affect sales of the Nintendo 64.

Nintendo has previously been unable to meet demand for the NES Classic or even the Switch, so there is a very real fear that many fans will  be unable to purchase the new SNES Classic without resorting to camping out in line or paying scalpers a premium. The pre-orders started earlier this week and they have already sold out in many stores. Here’s hoping that we’ll all be able to get one this year!
