Nickelodeon To Go Retro With ’90s Revivals

Hey Dude, I have some amazing news that is All That and more. Nickelodeon will be bringing back some of your favorite shows from the ’90s, and if that isn’t enough to make you stand up and Salute Your Shorts I don’t know what will.

Russell Hicks, president of content and development for Nickelodeon, told Variety, “We are looking at our library to bring back ideas, shows that were loved, in a fresh new way.”

What does that mean exactly? It isn’t clear yet, but it could mean reboots, retools, specials, movies, anything (please!). Would live action shows like Clarissa Explain It All mean a new cast, or could they borrow the model that led to the Disney Channel’s Girl Meets World? Cartoons like Doug and Hey Arnold! wouldn’t necessarily have to be subject to the ravages of time, but does that mean they would just start making new episodes without any nod to the past? I mean, the Simpsons‘ children haven’t aged in 25 years, why can’t the original cartoon kid with a football shaped head stay the same?

If you are too young or too old to understand why this news made your late 20s/early 30s child/parent excited, you need to understand that not only were these shows the shows of our childhood, they were awesome. The Adventures of Pete & Pete was so far ahead of its time, it wouldn’t look out of place if it aired Friday night’s on IFC. Ren and Stimpy make some Adult Swim cartoons look tame.

Let’s get together in the comments section and start coming up with our best reboot ideas. If someone can, make a computer game featuring Ferguson’s head where we can play out all the scenarios.
