Hey Dude, I have some amazing news that is All That and more. Nickelodeon will be bringing back some of your favorite shows from the ’90s, and if that isnât enough to make you stand up and Salute Your Shorts I donât know what will.
Russell Hicks, president of content and development for Nickelodeon, told Variety, âWe are looking at our library to bring back ideas, shows that were loved, in a fresh new way.â
What does that mean exactly? It isnât clear yet, but it could mean reboots, retools, specials, movies, anything (please!). Would live action shows like Clarissa Explain It All mean a new cast, or could they borrow the model that led to the Disney Channelâs Girl Meets World? Cartoons like Doug and Hey Arnold! wouldnât necessarily have to be subject to the ravages of time, but does that mean they would just start making new episodes without any nod to the past? I mean, the Simpsons‘ children havenât aged in 25 years, why canât the original cartoon kid with a football shaped head stay the same?
If you are too young or too old to understand why this news made your late 20s/early 30s child/parent excited, you need to understand that not only were these shows the shows of our childhood, they were awesome. The Adventures of Pete &Â Pete was so far ahead of its time, it wouldnât look out of place if it aired Friday nightâs on IFC. Ren and Stimpy make some Adult Swim cartoons look tame.
Letâs get together in the comments section and start coming up with our best reboot ideas. If someone can, make a computer game featuring Fergusonâs head where we can play out all the scenarios.
