Remember when Transformers was about giant robot aliens who sometimes turned into cars? Yeah, me neither. Especially not after watching this latest trailer for the next installment in the franchise, The Last Knight. Trust me, you are gonna long for the days when watching the 1986 animated movie felt like the biggest head-trip imaginable.
As Stefon from Saturday Night Live would say, this trailer has everything: swords, robot knights from Arthurian legends, Megatron, post-apocalyptic devastation, Anthony Hopkins seemingly reprising his role from Westworld, a heel turn from Optimus Prime, giant techno-organic tendrils encompassing the Earth, Mark Wahlbergâs backdoor audition for the inevitable Uncharted movie, a sassy teenage girl with a heart of gold, many people being blasted off their feet by many different explosions, tanks, and a dragon. What’s not to be excited about?
And speaking of the animated Transformers film, donât forget that Unicron is going to be in this movie, too! Honestly, say what you want about how completely bonkers this trailer might look from the outside (guilty), but even I can respect director Michael Bay for going all in on the weirdest, most esoteric parts of the actual cartoon canon. It’s not that much different than what Marvel Studios is doing with their movies when you think about it, right? Except, you know, with giant robots. Who sometimes turn into cars.
Are you pumped for this movie to come out on June 23? Confused? Perhaps a little bit of both? It’s okay, we are too. Let’s talk it out in the comments.
