New THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS Trailer Brings Tanks and Submarines into the Mix

Oh Vin Diesel, why must you do this to us? In the upcoming The Fate of The Furious, Dom Toretto has gone rogue thanks to Cipher (Charlize Theron), going against both his crew family and his literal family–his wife Letty (Michelle Rodriguez). In the trailer for the film that dropped today, we learn that family feuds (not the Steve Harvey kind) can be explosive, especially in the Fast & Furious universe (via SlashFilm).

As Frank Petty (Kurt Russell) puts it, Cipher is “the very definition of high-tech terrorism,” and she figured out a pretty amazing exploit. Somehow, she gained control of every car in the city, giving her a vehicular swarm to chase Luke Hobbs (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) and company without relent. We can’t empirically confirm this at the moment, but we’re pretty sure this is the most cars simultaneously crashing we’ve ever seen in a single film trailer.

There’s hope for Dom, though, since the trailer hints, as you’d expect, that he was somehow blackmailed into cooperating with Cipher. Regardless of his motives, the crew is forced to team up with Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), who doesn’t particularly care for Dom since, oh yeah, he put Shaw in jail that one time. Still, they manage to put their differences aside for long enough to seemingly make some progress and travel the planet. Explosions occur the world over, and we won’t even spoil how The Rock handles a torpedo.

Check out the trailer above, and share with us your theories about why Dom has seemingly reverted to his old criminal ways.
