New STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Photos Revealed

Just yesterday we were feeling bummed because J.J. Abrams confirmed there wouldn’t be any new footage from Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the upcoming D23 Expo. And now this morning? The tide has turned. Entertainment Weekly (EW) will feature The Force Awakens in the issue dropping August 14, and they’ve released several new images from the film to go with the pending cover story. Like, a whole gallery of images. I’m excited enough that I may not need to drink coffee today.

The photos are a mix of brand new shots and a few we saw previously at Star Wars Celebration back in April. If you’re worried about too many spoilers, don’t be. The biggest reveals from this batch of pictures are a full image of Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux (it was also shown at Comic-Con but only briefly), a new creature seen with Daisy Ridley’s Rey on Jakku–for the record, I want one of whatever that is and want to purchase the toy immediately–and a look at the set of the First Order’s Starkiller Base.

General Hux, who according to EW is “a cruel leader of the First Order who craves to show the galaxy his might.”

And the new creature with Rey (Rey’s cutting BB-8 free from another scavenger’s net):

Be sure to flip through the rest of the photos in the gallery below. They’re striking. That shot of Kylo Ren in the snow? And what about Finn with the crashed TIE fighter? Man. New Star Wars is exciting.

The feature on The Force Awakens in the upcoming issue of EW will apparently not spoil any major plot points. It will have an exclusive interview with Abrams about Kylo Ren and his relationship with Darth Vader, Harrison Ford’s first day on set, who’s riding that creature in the above photo with Rey, and more.

What do you think of the new photos? Which one has you most intrigued? Let me know in the comments or come talk to me about them on Twitter!
