New STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Footage Puts the Focus on Finn

In less than 30 days, many of us will have seen a new Star Wars movie. If you’re like me, you will have seen that movie multiple times. Given the approaching release date of December 18, the promotion storm for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is brewing, and it’s continuing with a new and shiny television spot. This time, however, the new footage-heavy clip focuses squarely on Finn (John Boyega).

The non-spoilery things we know about Finn so far: He’s actually a stormtrooper when we see him crash on Jakku. He’s not a double agent. Something happens and he finds himself working with Rey and they end up with the Resistance. The full length trailer revealed he was raised to do one thing, and this new spot reveals the tiniest hint of his conflict. It sounds like he’s witnessed the First Order commit terrible acts. Unrelated to Finn, there’s a wonderful shot of BB-8 being adorable. I can’t promise that the scene is new footage because I’ve been trying not to obsess over tracking down every television spot and ad, but it’s new to me and strengthens my warm feelings towards that spherical astromech.

For me, the highlight of this promo was hearing Finn say “Hell no” in response to Han Solo asking, “Are you sure you’re up for this?” Star Wars does the reluctant hero story so very well, and it looks like they’re lining things up for Finn’s journey.

What do you think of the latest and greatest promo for The Force Awakens? Do you think we’ll get other character-centric spots as we get closer?
