New STAR TREK BEYOND Trailer, Poster, and Comic-Con Premiere News Beams Down

At a Star Trek fan event tonight, audiences got a whole new look at the third movie from the Abrams-verse, in a move designed to quell any misgivings fans may have had so far. We’ll have a more detailed write-up of the event tomorrow, but before it even ended for all of those in attendance, we found ourselves with a new trailer online, above, that’s heavy on the spectacle, absent on the Beastie Boys, and peppered with some scary appearances of Idris Elba emoting under layers of latex.

There’s a new poster, too. Cloudy with a chance of Enterprise.

While the movie opens July 22nd, the world premiere will be taking place on Wednesday the 20th as part of Comic-Con’s preview night in San Diego. Per Paramount’s press release, it will include “the first-ever open-air IMAX world premiere, will feature special appearances by Lin and the “STAR TREK BEYOND” filmmakers and cast, as well as a live concert performance of Academy Award®-winning composer Michael Giacchino’s film score by the San Diego Symphony Orchestra.”

But how can you get in? Aha…that’s a detail to be revealed at a later date. But if you’re at Comic-Con Wednesday night, you might just have a chance.

It looks like anyone concerned that this was going to be “2Fast2Trek” can rest easy knowing this is a large-scale Trek adventure with new aliens, new threats to the Enterprise crew and the Earth, and at least one literal cliffhanger. Stay tuned to Nerdist for more on the event, but for now–are you feeling better about the new life and new civilizations on display? Are you planning on being in San Diego that Wednesday? Beam down to comments and let us know.
