New RISE OF THE TOMB RAIDER Trailer Shows Off High Octane Action

The pre-E3 hype continues! In a move to tease a little of what is to come in a couple of weeks at the LA Convention Center, a new trailer for the Xbox timed exclusive, Rise of the Tomb Raider, has just been released. Unfortunately, the trailer is all CGI and shows nothing in the form of gameplay, but it does prompt fans to prepare for the “world premiere” at Microsoft’s E3 press briefing on June 15, teasing what appears likely to be a gameplay reveal.

The short trailer has our heroine doing a voiceover about her love of the hunt. Speaking on the search for the mysteries of the world, she explains that “throughout history the boldest have dared to go further, they risked death, and in doing so live on forever”. If previous games are to be any indication of what’s to come in the newest installment, then we know Lara will be kicking butt while staring death right in the eyes without even flinching.

Microsoft’s E3 presence will be strong this year and everything coming out from their camp indicates that they will have more games than usual to show off. With their newest game box lagging behind in sales compared to its direct competitor, the Xbox brand has a lot to gain from a successful showing at this years expo.

As for Rise of the Tomb Raider, the nature of the exclusivity deal between Microsoft and Square Enix is still muddled, with neither side willing to reveal the duration of the exclusivity. We also don’t know what other platforms the game will eventually release on, though it’s hard to imagine that Square Enix would ignore the other 20 million people that are possibly ready to throw money at them for this title. It’s important to remember that the recent reboot of the franchise was remastered for the newest home consoles, selling exceptionally well on the Playstation 4 platform.

I doubt we will gain more knowledge on the deal that binds the two companies together any time soon, but E3 is for sure going to bring more footage of Lara Croft’s next adventure. That’s an exciting proposition. Pickaxe your way down to the comments section below and let us know if you think the gameplay for the newest title will be drastically changed from its predecessor. E3, here we come.
