New PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES Trailer Has Bite

Acclaimed “revisionist fictional history” novel Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has found itself transitioning to the big screen and oh, what a joy this romp seems poised to be! Starring Lily James (Cinderella, Downton Abbey) as Elizabeth Bennett, Lena Headey and Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Matt Smith (Doctor Who), and Sam Riley (Maleficent), the movie casts an undead shadow over the events of Jane Austen’s classic story, based on the novel of the same name.

The unmarried status of Mr. and Mrs. Bennett’s five is suddenly the least of everyone’s worries when zombies are injected into the 19th century tale. We see the trailer start off like so many others for period-piece movies: there’s wistfulness, doe-eyed panning shots of the protagonist, long stares into the distance—it’s all there. But then it cuts to all of the action that sets it so far apart from others like it. Elizabeth turns around and sees the first undead dreadful; Lena Heady’s split-second shot has her slinging blades and missing an eye. Her character would typically be sporting an eye-patch, but it’s pretty badass—and slightly disturbing—visual to see her without it.

And you can learn more about what to expect from the film thanks to our SDCC interview with the cast:

The book has already spawned a prequel novel, as well as a graphic novel adaptation. The movie version of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is scheduled to hit theaters on February 5, 2016.
