New POKEMON and Battle Footage Revealed for SUN and MOON

With the reveal recently of the Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon games, fans of the battling and collecting RPG got very excited about picking either Rowlet the grass-type owl or Litten the fire-type kitty (and avoiding like the plague the poor, misunderstood Popplio, the water-type…seal clown). One thing we haven’t seen too much about the game coming out in November is what other pocket monsters you might discover, and what kind of game play advancements you might see. This is why E3 trailers are great, folks! Because now we have both.

In the above trailer put out by Nintendo, we’re introduced to several new Pokémon, all of which one has to collect, and they’re pretty darn cool if we say so ourselves. First, we have Pikipek, a super cute looking woodpecker who is–naturally–a flying type and who uses the ability called “Keen Eye.” Real sad that the footage shown has Pikipek attacking Popplio. That poor thing can’t catch a break!

Next, possibly my favorite, is an angry looking mongoose called Yungoos who has a power called “Strong Jaw” which seems very apt given the giant rodent’s set of chompers. After that, Grubbin, an insect-type who has some impressive pincers and has the ability “Swarm” which sounds extra terrifying considering a swarm of those things could do some serious damage. And finally for new Pokémon, we have the Mythical Pokémon Mageaerna, which is a steel and fairy-type, which looks to me a bit like a Pokéball transformer. She has the power of “Soul Heart,” which uses a fleur cannon and is, as the video itself says, “super effective.”

The video also showcases a new battle mode–a battle royal! This will allow a four-player, no-holds-barred fight where only the strongest will be left standing. You’ll have to study your opponents carefully, because you can still only attack one Pokémon at a time, making each hit count all the more. Don’t just attack Popplio because you don’t like him for whatever reason, unless you think it’s worth it.

Between these announcements, and the knowledge about Legendary Pokémon Solgaleo and Lunala, Pokémon Moon and Sun look like amazing extensions of your Poké-collecting habit, or a great starter game for people who’ve yet to play any. The games will launch November 18, 2016, on both Nintendo 2DS and 3DS.

Which of these new Pokémon leaves you the most excited? Is it Yungoos? It should be. Let us know in the comments below!

For reals though, why do people dislike Popplio so much?
