New Photo of Andy Serkis on the STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Set

In a just-released interview with starwars.com, photographer Annie Leibovitz looks back on her career as a photographer and the work she has done pertaining to the Star Wars films. In this interview, she also shared an exclusive look at an unpublished photo from the set of The Force Awakens. The photo is of Andy Serkis in full motion capture for his character. The photo is quite similar to the one Leibovitz had of Lupita Nyong’o in Vanity Fair, and that similarity may be the reason VF did not publish the photo. She also reveals that his character is named Supreme Leader Snoke. With a name like that, we’d be surprised if he wasn’t somewhat villainous.

Andy Serkis

Leibovitz has been doing photography on-set of Star Wars films since the original sequel, The Empire Strike Back, was in production in 1980. She was also on set for each of the prequel films, and says she gathered as much of the Star Wars cast from all six films together for a final “family photo” in 2005 after production had wrapped on The Revenge Of The Sith. Well, thanks to LucasFilm, Disney, and JJ Abrams, she gets to step back behind the camera and capture more memories from a galaxy far, far away for the foreseeable future. For now, though, we are left to wonder what sort of part Supreme Leader Snoke will play in the story of Force Awakens, and look forward to another mo-cap Andy Serkis on the big screen.
