New Kickstarter Aims to Bring the Ultimate Lightsaber Experience to LARP

For the kids who used to have their lightsaber fights with pool noodles, this Kickstarter campaign has you in mind. Calimacil, a Canadian company that specializes in foam weapons and armor, has launched a Kickstarter to make the leap from fantasy to sci-fi with high-quality foam lightsabers. The lightsabers would be the first to integrate the lightweight and safe play of a LARP weapon with the lights, sounds, and motion-sensing technology used in a lot of high-end lightsaber replicas. The lightsabers come with several blade options, and three types of hilts, that backers can look to receive with their pledges.

The lightsaber blades are available as painted blades, mono-colored light blades, or RGB light blades. The RGB blades can interact with a mobile phone app via bluetooth, so users can change the blade’s color and light patterns for customization. Both the mono-color and RGB blades can be purchases in vibro-blade or plasma blade styles. While the plasma blades are the classic lightsaber blade look, the vibro-blade lightsabers have more of a stylized katana design to them. Take a look at the following pictures for reference of the painted, plasma, and vibro-blade styles.

The hilts come in basic, advanced, and master versions, with each version offering more advanced capabilities for their lightsabers. While the basic hilt will light up a blade, the advanced and master hilts are the only ones that can work an RGB blade, and the master hilt is the only one with sound and motion technology.

Like many of the replica lightsaber companies, Calimacil wants to make for the most screen-accurate weapons, but also wants to offer a safe product for live action roleplaying. Calimacil has been highly revered in the LARP community since the company’s inception in 2004. Not only have they designed their own motion board, and built durable foam that light can shine through, but Calimacil has also put a lot of time and effort into offering a high-quality product that anyone can use.

As of this writing, Calimacil’s campaign has raised over $59,000 of their $38,000+ goal, with most of a month still to go. Be sure to head over to their Kickstarter page if you are interested in helping them along. Also be sure to let us know what you think in the comments below!
