New HITMAN 15-Minute Demo Debuts at PAX Prime

Agent 47 will be back on video game consoles later this year in Hitman. The sixth game in the core Hitman franchise has been described by developer Io-Interactive as “a pure ‘Hitman’ experience and the foundation for future Hitman games.” Each level of Hitman is a large sandbox world in and of itself, as Io-Interactive and Square Enix demonstrated this weekend at PAX Prime.

In a 15-minute walkthrough video, Io-Interactive Community Manager Travis Barbour takes gamers through the “Showstopper” level in Hitman. In the walkthrough, Agent 47’s target is Viktor Novikov, a world famous fashion mogul who is also the leader of the Iago spy ring. As explained by Barbour, Novikov is extremely well protected, but there are numerous ways to dispatch him within the game.

Each level of the next-gen Hitman game has up to 300 NPC characters who have unique routines and reactions. Agent 47 can listen in on their conversations for clues about his target or even manipulate them. And when necessary, Agent 47 can take out Novikov’s employees and disguise himself in their uniforms for greater access to the different rooms in the level.

There are limits to Agent 47’s ability to hide in plain sight. Barbour says that Novikov’s head of security will be able to see through any disguise that Agent 47 is wearing if he gets too close. Other NPC characters will also have the ability to recognize that Agent 47 isn’t who he appears to be, and the player will be forced to avoid those characters in order to remain undetected.

The video concludes with a very spectacular attempt on Novikov’s life, courtesy of Agent 47. Given Novikov’s public persona, it’s fitting that at least one way to end his life will literally be a “showstopper.”

Hitman will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on December 8.
