New GHOSTBUSTERS Theme by Fall Out Boy and Missy Elliott Released

If you are going to do your own version of a beloved, iconic movie theme song, then you can’t be afraid to make it all your own. It’s safe to say that Fall Out Boy showed no fear in taking on the Ghostbusters theme, approaching it with a very Fall Out Boy twist.

Recently we told you that the band, along with Missy Elliott, would be updating Ray Parker Jr.‘s Ghostbusters theme for the upcoming, female-led reboot of the franchise. Today, the band released this track on their YouTube page, and we first saw/heard it at EW. While the song does keep many of Parker’s absurd (in the best way) lyrics, it is a very different type of song.

My bet is that if you are a fan of Fall Out Boy, you will like this version of the song—it’s a faster, more upbeat rock interpretation with a hip hop breakdown. However, if you don’t like Fall Out Boy, I suspect you will not enjoy it.

Here’s the good news, though: no matter how you feel about this cover, it will not ruin your enjoyment of the Ray Parker Jr. theme song from the original movie. This song will not travel back to 1984 and replace that one, on screen or in your minds.

See? That version of the song is still right here, same as it ever was!

Fall Out Boy and Missy Elliott’s song will be part of the new Ghostbusters soundtrack, which will be released the same day the Paul Feig-directed movie opens in theaters, July 15.

What do you think of this version of the song? Don’t be afraid to tell us what you think in the comments below.
