The thing about Better Call Saul that makes it feel like so much more than a prequel/sequel/spin-off series is its ability to give such illuminating context and a rich inner life to characters we already know and love. It gives us something new despite being familiar. The Saul Goodman origin story (in a way) has already shown us quite a bit about Slippin’ Jimmy McGill’s beginnings and how he came to be known as his aforementioned alter ego. But in its second season, those doors have been blown off.
And nowhere is that more clear than in the disintegration of Jimmy’s relationship with his brother Chuck (Michael McKean). After his absence in the season premiere, Chuck makes his first appearance of the season in episode twoâdubbed “Cobbler”âand it looks like he’s finally taking steps toward a return to normalcy.
In our exclusive clip from the episodeâairing Monday, February 22 at 10pmâwe get a deeper look at how Howard, Jimmy’s old nemesis at Hamlin, Hamlin and McGill, is taking up Jimmy’s old responsibilities. In what is surely a surprise to no one, his motives feel ulterior in nature, but perhaps even more intriguing is Chuck’s next move.
“Cobbler” was written by Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, and directed by Vince Gilligan. Are you looking forward to the new episode? How have you dug Better Call Saul so far this season? Let us know in the comments below.
