Netflix Releases Marvel’s JESSICA JONES First Photos

In just under two months, Marvel’s Jessica Jones will debut on Netflix as the second of four original series leading up to The Defenders miniseries. And so far, Netflix and Marvel haven’t even given fans a proper trailer—that teaser trailer they dropped last week not withstanding—but now we’ve finally got a first look at the characters coming our way.

Casual Marvel fans may have to be wondering, “who the hell is Jessica Jones?!” The short answer is that Jessica Jones is a former superheroine whose brief career in costume ended in failure after she suffered a deeply personal trauma. As a private investigator, Jones was dragged back into the world of superheroes, often letting her self-destructive vices get the better of her.

Jessica Jones made her debut in Alias, a 2001 mature comic book series by Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos. Since her stint in that title, Jones became one of the most prominent heroines during Bendis’ New Avengers run, and she even formed a relationship with Luke Cage.

That relationship appears to have made it into the Netflix series, as Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) will appear alongside Luke Cage (Mike Colter) before he stars in his own Netflix original series next year. Pictures from the Jessica Jones set have leaked out over the last few months, but today, Marvel and Netflix finally released the first official photos from the show which depict Ritter as Jones and Colter as Cage.

The new photos also mark the first real glimpse of former Doctor Who star David Tennant as Kilgrave—a man with a dark connection to Jones’ past. Rachael Taylor (pictured above) also makes her first appearance as Patricia “Trish” Walker, the MCU’s version of Patsy Walker a.k.a. Hellcat. And finally, Carrie-Anne Moss appears as Harper, a new character created for the series. Check out the rest of them in the gallery below.

All 13 episodes of Jessica Jones will debut on Netflix on Friday, November 20.
