What If THOR: RAGNAROK Were Actually Made in the 1980s?

Ever since the first eye-popping, synth-laden trailer for Thor: Ragnarok, Marvel fans have been salivating over the heavy 1980s throwback vibes oozing out of every frame. From the Masters of the Universe-esque logo of the movie to the day-glo glory of the SDCC poster to writer-director Taika Waititi’s assertions that the film will be very “inspired by ’70s / ’80s sci-fi fantasy,” Thor: Ragnarok is shaping up to be a far-out cosmic adventure that evokes the bombastic cinematic aesthetic of the 1980s. But what if Thor: Ragnarok hadn’t been made in 2017? What if this movie was actually a relic from the 1980s that enterprising time travelers digitally remastered and cleaned up for modern audiences?

Well, lucky for you, we used the Time Stone to travel across the decades and unearth the long-lost, forgotten trailer for the 1987 classic Thor III: Ragnarok. With VHS distortion, “cutting-edge” special effects, and way too much expository voiceover (provided by the incredible Darin De Paul), this trailer is a fascinating look into what could have been–much like Marvel’s own What If? comics back in the day. Now we’re hoping that, much like Logan: Noir, we’ll get a similarly stylized Thor: Ragnarok VHS-ified full-length version too.

Thor: Ragnarok opens on November 3, 2017.

Which version of Thor: Ragnarok would you rather see, the modern one or the retro one? Let us know in the comments below!
