The Villains of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Explained

As the release date inches ever-closer, director J.J. Abrams has been gifting us with little glimpses of new information about Star Wars: The Force Awakens in random interviews and press junkets. Recently we gleaned a little bit of information from an Entertainment Weekly spread, as well as a new Episode VII-centric edition of Empire Magazine, but they’ve been mere morsels with which to whet our appetites. Tuesday, though, was like Christmas in August, because we got a whole stocking full of gift-wrapped Star Wars details!

Among the information confirmed is that Supreme Leader Snoke is Kylo Ren‘s boss, neither of them are Siths, and — like many of us suspected — Kylo Ren isn’t even his REAL NAME! Cue the dramatic music! Apparently, “Ren” is just a title like “Darth” and the Knights of Ren are a whole new group of baddies that tap into the dark side of the force. We’ve got a bad feeling about this…

So what is Kylo Ren’s birth name? Join Jessica Chobot as we contemplate some of the family tree possibilities for this tri-saber-toting villain and run down the rest of the revelations from J.J. Abrams recent interview on today’s Nerdist News.

Thanks for watching today’s episode! Don’t miss Malik talking Kingdom Hearts on Nerdist: Play. Be sure to let us know in the comments below who you think Kylo Ren is gonna be related to! (Don’t say Jar Jar, don’t say Jar Jar, don’t say Jar Jar…)
