Neil Patrick Harris Will Host the Oscars in 2015

This year’s Academy Awards show is gonna be legen — wait for it — really, really pleasant to watch because its newly announced host, Neil Patrick Harris, is a consummate performer and an all-around top notch awards shot host. The news broke earlier today that the Gone Girl star will host the 87th Academy Awards on February 22, 2015. The Emmy-and-Tony award-winning actor is no stranger to hosting award shows; he has hosted the Emmys and the Tonys, and even appeared in the massive opening musical number for the 82nd Academy Awards in 2010. Now all he needs is a Grammys hosting gig and he’ll have himself an EGOT.

NPH announced the hosting gig on Twitter earlier today, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has since confirmed it via press release:

Returning for the third year in a row are producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who delivered the most-watched entertainment programming in a decade with last year’s show. The Ellen DeGeneres-hosted ceremony garnered a staggering 43 million viewers, and presumably a comparable amount of retweets after she took the selfie seen round the world.

“It is truly an honor and a thrill to be asked to host this year’s Academy Awards,” Harris said in an official Academy release. “I grew up watching the Oscars and was always in such awe of some of the greats who hosted the show. To be asked to follow in the footsteps of Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, and everyone else who had the great fortune of hosting is a bucket list dream come true.”

Well, we’re pleased as punch to have you, Neil. Between this, your starring turn on Broadway’s Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and your searing performance in Gone Girl, it seems like you’re having a pretty swell year.

The 87th Academy Awards will air on ABC on February 22, 2015 at 8/7c.
