Neil Patrick Harris and James Corden Cap a Musical Theater Showdown with HAMILTON

Is it too much to say that Neil Patrick Harris is a national treasure? And, despite being British, can we also count James Corden as one as well? Come to think of it, does saying something’s a “national treasure” even mean anything anymore after God knows how many Nicolas Cage movies? Well, whatever the level of praise that comes with that term, we’re sure glad Neil Patrick Harris recently stopped by The Late Late Show with James Corden to settle a score no one knew needed settling.

The incredible NPH made his appearance a little earlier than expected on the show to throw down the gauntlet of Broadway musical theater. We’re led to believe that there’s always been a beef between the two Tonys hosts that could only be settled in a very particular and fitting manner: belting out a medley of Broadway tunes. The segment wastes no time in having the two go tit-for-tat in some decent choices for each of their singing abilities. We hear “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat” (Guys and Dolls), “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” (Gypsy), “Being Alive” (Company), “On My Own” (Les Misérables), “All That Jazz” (Chicago), “Sugar Daddy” (Hedwig and the Angry Itch), and “My Shot” (Hamilton).

Beyond the joy of seeing NPH and Corden team up to do a more than decent rendition of the Hamilton tune, we have to say we’re a bit floored at the passion Corden put into the Les Misérables song “On My Own” (or at least that final note that he hits like a champ!)

What Broadway tunes do you wish the pair sang? Do you think this could be the beginning of a new ongoing segment? (oh man! we hope so too!) Let’s discuss in the comments below!
