With Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End‘s release date fast approaching, the game has been in the news quite a lot lately. For instance, in addition to getting our hands on the game, the folks at Naughty Dog recently gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at the game’s development with a fun video series and announced a new release date. Â While none of that really came as a surprise, the developer made headlines today in a way we weren’t expecting. According to an interview Uncharted 4 director Neil Druckmann did with Gamesradar, he’d be okay with another developer tackling a potential Uncharted 5.
“If they made a great game Iâd be excited,” Druckmann noted. “Iâd want to play an Uncharted I didn’t work on. Itâd be a lot of fun.”
One of the things Naughty Dog has made clear is that Uncharted 4 marks the end of the road for them taking the helm on Nathan Drake adventures. It’s certainly nice to hear that the developer doesn’t mind passing the baton. Though, Druckmann reveals that they would still be involved, being creators of the series and all.
“Obviously we would have a big part in it as the creators of the franchise,” explained Druckmann. “Weâd just want to make sure they get the essence of it right.”
He added, “If there’s a studio that can do that then great. If not, then itâs okay that this is the last one.”
As fans of the franchise, we’d be curious to see what another studio would do with it. Depending on Nate’s fate in Uncharted 4, putting him in another game would probably be difficult. Though, some sort of spinoff, or prequel would be interesting.
Would you want to see the story continue? If so, which developer would you want to see take it on? Let us know in the comments!
