Earlier this week, fans of Brooklyn Nine-Nine were understandably upset when Fox canceled the series after five seasons. But less than 24 hours later, NBC rode in and renewed the show for an abbreviated sixth season.
Via Deadline, NBC has lined up a 13-episode sixth season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the cop comedy starring SNL alum Andy Samberg as an off-the-wall detective, Jake Peralta. Brooklyn Nine-Nineâs prospects briefly looked grim when both Netflix and Hulu declined to pick up more episodes of the series. But this show was produced by NBC sister studio Universal TV, and it was created by Parks and Recreation veterans Mike Schur and Dan Goor. NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt cited the seriesâ ties to the network in his statement about the renewal.
âEver since we sold this show to Fox Iâve regretted letting it get away, and itâs high time it came back to its rightful home,â said Greenblatt. âI speak for everyone at NBC; hereâs to the Nine-Nine!â
How did Brooklyn Nine-Nine survive this brush with oblivion? On his Twitter account, Schur wrote that “This happened because fans of the show went [berserk]. We can’t thank you – or NBC – enough.â
Several of the cast members also celebrated the renewal of the series on twitter.
