NBC Drops First Trailer for TIMELESS

This fall, NBC is getting back into the time travel industry with a new drama from the creators of Supernatural and The Shield. Eric Kripke and Shawn Ryan have co-created Timeless, a series which follows a three-person team’s mission to go back in time and prevent America from being wiped away from the pages of history.

Earlier today, NBC released the first trailer for Timeless, which sets up the central conflict of the series. A man named Garcia Flynn (Goran Visnjic) has stolen a state-of-the-art time machine and hijacked a two-person crew to accompany him to the past. The video also introduces the team that will attempt to stop Flynn: history professor Lucy Preston (Abigail Spencer), Delta Force veteran Wyatt Logan (Matt Lanter), and Rufus Carlin (Malcolm Barrett), the engineer behind the time travel project who is reluctantly forced to pilot the prototype machine.

Judging from the trailer, it looks like the first stop on the American history tour of time and space will land in 1937 as Flynn plans to use the infamous Hindenburg disaster to further his agenda. But there are hints that Flynn is following someone else’s preordained destiny, which appears to have a surprising connection to Lucy.

The video also plays up the struggle that Rufus will face in the past. As he says in the trailer, “I am black. There is literally no place in American history that will be awesome for me!” Rufus’ prediction comes true in the clip, and he even adds that he has history on his side…which doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s going to live to see it again.

NBC will announce where Timeless falls on its 2016 TV schedule later this month.
