NBC Casts Girl’s Allison Williams For Peter Pan Live

You probably grew up watching Mary Martin soar around the stage and sing about the trials and tribulations of growing up. So it’s no surprise that NBC has chosen another girlish lady to play Peter Pan in their December 4th live television production of the Broadway musical. NBC announced this morning that Girls star Allison Williams will play the puckish flying boy opposite Christopher Walken’s Captain Hook.

“It’s such an honor to be a part of this adventure, and I’m very excited to get to work with this extraordinarily talented team. And besides, what could go wrong in a live televised production with simultaneous flying, sword fighting and singing?” Williams said with the announcement. Williams is the daughter of NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams. She shot to stardom as a star of HBO’s Girls and has proven her singing chops in her role as Marnie. Given the adorable childhood picture she posted this morning, we’re guessing she’s pretty excited about her new role:

Rumors had fan-favorite Kristen Bell as Pan until NBC confirmed that, between her House of Lies responsibilities and confirmed pregnancy, she was out of the question. There are still a number of exciting roles to be filled in the upcoming production including Tiger Lily (maybe a Native American actress?), Wendy Darling and her brothers, and the fantastical Tinkerbell, Nana and Crocodile. With the blockbuster success of Carrie Underwood’s Sound of Music Live in 2013, and the promise of a tap-dancing Captain Hook, we can’t wait to see how NBC adapts this high-flying, totally magical show for live television.

So in this version, Peter will treat Wendy like garbage until Wendy says she doesn’t want to be friends with him any more, which will send Peter into a depression spiral. Peter will then beg Wendy to come back to Neverland because he misses her and feels really bad about what he said, and after Wendy sympathetically agrees, Peter will immediately tell her he doesn’t want to be friends with her anymore.

Then Peter will buddy up to Capt. Hook, but says he’s not allowed to tell any of their friends they’ve started hanging out. Then when Tinkerbell catches them flying around together, Peter will insist that Capt. Hook force him to teach him to fly at sword-point.
